11-01-2004 - "The Archaeological
Process: How We Know About The Past"
Join the San Antonio Art Museum for a special workshop led by leading
experts in the world of archaeology. Using archaeological
findings and applicable lesson plans, this workshop
reconstructs the history, peoples, and cultures
of the ancient Near East. Presentations will include:
Beverly Chiarulli, “Why is the Past Important?
Lessons from the Bureau of Land Management”;
Ellen Bedell, “The Online Uluburun Shipwreck
Project: Archaeological Methods and trade in the
Late Bronze Age Mediterranean World”;
Neal Bierling, “Qumran and the Dead Sea
Scrolls”; Peter Feinman, “Mesopotamia
and the Classroom: Space, Time, and Values.”
The Workshop is coordinated by the American Schools
of Oriental Research (ASOR), the preeminent American
organization devoted to excavating in the Middle
East for over a century. Registration fee: $15.00.
Educators will receive Professional Development
credit hours approved by the State Board for Educator
Certification. These programs are made possible
by generous support from the USAA Foundation, A
Charitable Trust.
