TEACHERHOSTELS™:
FOR
PEOPLE WHO LOVE TO LEARN
The
Institute of History, Archaeology, and Education is
pleased to announce that it has successfully applied
for the trademark of Teacherhostels™. A teacherhostel
is a program in history and/or archaeology for people
who love to learn. Teachers can earn professional development
credit for the programs and in some cases graduate credit
as well. Others may attend the programs simply for the
love of learning ... or to be with one's spouse! Whenever
possible, Teacherhostels™ will occur at individual
historic sites or museums.
Comments
from a previous Teacherhostel™:
“This
was an exciting workshop as it provided the opportunity
to examine technology that was 6000 years old up to
the latest in satellite imagery. The scholarship and
enthusiasm of the presenters provided for enlightening
sessions. I plan to expand the research component of
our summer and fall archaeology project for ninth grades
at ICHS based on new resource information I got from
this workshop. Thanks for pulling this tiring but most
worthwhile session together.”

“We
are both casual readers of history and were very much
interested when we heard about the topics which would
be presented at the class in a museum environment. We
were, however, somewhat concerned about our (layman's)
ability to understand the material. Much to our pleasure,
we found that the quality of the instructors, the level
of their presentations, and the focus of the topics
all far exceeded our expectations. We were, therefore,
well able to follow the very professional discussions
despite the depth of the material. In addition, the
plentiful handouts were thoughtfully prepared and contained
fascinating information. Obviously a great deal of care
and scholarly effort went into their preparation. The
docents for each exhibit were excellent and the museums
themselves perfectly complemented the class instruction.”
“All
in all, it was an extraordinary learning experience
and we look forward to the next series.”
